Edward Philip "Phil" Fitch, IV, 71, of Sandusky, passed away Friday morning, February 22, 2013 after a courageous battle with leukemia.
Phil spent his life sailing his dreams and never regretted a single moment. He was born on May 28, 1941 in Sandusky to the late Edward Fitch, III and Sarah M. (Gardner) Fitch. Phil graduated from Sandusky High School in 1959, and was a veteran of the U.S. Army.
He worked for 41 years at Bethlehem Steel, piloting Great Lakes vessels, and retired in 2001. He was a past member of both the American Legion Post 83 and the International Shipmasters Association, and a current member of the Maritime Museum. An avid fisherman, Phil also loved staying abreast of marine traffic. Most of all, he cherished time with his family and friends.
Phil is survived by his wife of 46 years, Linda (Stimmel) Fitch; children, Robert (Jamie) Fitch, of Mason, Ohio, Sean (Debbie) Fitch, of Walnut Creek, California, and Ed (Angela) Fitch, of Minneapolis, Minnesota; grandchildren, Robert, Carter, Lili, Aidan, and Philip; sister, Sarah (Robert) Dresing, of Florida; dear niece and nephews, many cousins, and friends.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his special aunt and uncle, Francis and Arthur McGory.
At Phil's request, there will be no viewing. Private family services will be held following cremation.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Phil's memory to the Taussig Cancer Institute - Leukemia Research Fund, 9500 Euclid Ave. R30, Cleveland, OH 44195.
