Harold L. Burgess, 68, of Norwalk, Ohio, died Friday, March 8, 2013 in Firelands Regional Medical Center, Sandusky, Ohio.
He was born June 29, 1944 in Naugatuck, West Virginia to the late Albert and Lorissa (Thompson) Burgess and lived in this area most of his life. Harold attended Milan Friends Church and was a veteran of the U.S. Navy and the U.S. Army serving in Vietnam. He was a former truck driver for the South Shore Trucking Company. Harold was a member of Ken Bur Bell Post #41 American Legion, Norwalk, Ohio and was a former member of Firelands Post #2743 Veterans of Foreign Wars, Norwalk, Ohio, Eagles Aerie #711 Norwalk, Ohio, and the Bronson Norwalk Conservation Club. He enjoyed fishing, shooting pool, bowling, traveling, music, and playing guitar.
Harold is survived by his wife of 32 years, Merrie C. (Herrmann) Burgess of Norwalk, Ohio, and by his children, Natalee and Justin Rapp of Colorado Springs, Colorado, Mary Jo and Allen Elkins of Hamilin, West Virginia, John P. Snider of Norwalk, Ohio, Michele Diane Snider of Sandusky, Ohio, and Melissa Lynn Snider of Norwalk, Ohio. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Carmella Rapp, Joshua Elkins, Kayla Elkins, John Snider, Jr., Jarrod Snider, Katie Osler, Emilee Snider, Dominic Irby, and Patience McMurray, two great grandchildren, Jolee Ball and soon to be born, Jemma Ball, and by his sister, Margaret Ann Chaney of Cleveland, Ohio and by his brother, Arthur Lee Burgess of Cleveland, Ohio.
Harold was preceded in death by his brothers, John, David, and Donald Burgess.
Friends may call on Wednesday, March, 13, 2013 from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. in Walker Funeral Home, 98 West Main Street, Norwalk, Ohio and on Thursday, March 14, 2013 from 10 a.m. until the time of service at 11:00 a.m. in the funeral home. Mr. Joe Christiansen will officiate. Interment with military honors conducted by American Legion Post #41 will be in Woodlawn Cemetery.
