Verna M. Riley, 82, of Norwalk, Ohio, died Sunday, March 17, 2013 in Bellevue Care Center.
She was born November 11, 1930 in Norwalk, Ohio to the late Edwin V. and Irene C. (Rossman) Schlachter and was a lifelong area resident. Verna was a member of St. Paul Catholic Church and sang in the Church Choir. Verna was a farm wife, and former employee of Mason's Dept. Store and Christie Lane School. She was also a member of Firelands Post #2743 Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary, was a former member of the Farm Bureau, was an honorary member of Monroeville FFA, and was a volunteer at K of C # 262.
Verna is survived by her son ,Neal (Janet) Riley, of Coos Bay, Oregon, by her daughters, Rachel (Jim) Daniel , of Chandler, Arizona, Anne Dapore, of North Fairfield, Ohio, and Jean (Russ) Roth of Norwalk, Ohio, by her grandchildren, Tom, Jacob, and Jessep Dapore and Emily Phillips; Dustin and Drew Hedrick; Craig, Justin, and Makayla Roth; and Robin, Sara, and Kate Riley, and by her great grandchildren, Gatlin, Adrianna, Drake, Reid, Dax, Rex, and Peyson. She is also survived by her brother, Richard Schlachter of St. Petersburg, Florida, and by her sister, Patty Curtis, of Mesa, Arizona.
Verna was preceded in death by her husband, Paul N. Riley, in 1993, by her son, Nicholas Riley in 1956, by her son in law, Marty Dapore , by her brother, William Schlachter, and by her sisters, Florence Betschman, Joan Barker, Norma Hartman, Phyllis Burras, Trudy Riley, and Janet Orlosky.
Friends may call on Thursday, March 21, 2013 from 4:00 p.m to 8:00 p.m. in Walker Funeral Home,98 West Main St., Norwalk, Ohio. Mass of Christian burial will be held on Friday, March 22, 2013 at 10:30 a.m. in St. Paul Catholic Church, 91 East Main St., Norwalk, Ohio. Rev. Frank Kehres will officiate. Burial will follow in St. Paul Cemetery.
