James E. Moore (Jay), (Jim) 78, of Sandusky passed away March 31st at Stein Hospice after a recent illness.
He was born May 26, 1934 to Eugene and Edna (Foos) Moore. He was a member of St. Peter and Paul's parish. Jim was a 1952 graduate of Bellevue High School and then served four years in the Air Force as an aircraft mechanic. He graduated from New Castle, Pa. school of trades, as a brick mason, In addition to many brick, stone, concrete jobs, as owner of JEM construction, he also worked Ford Motor Co. as a millwright and retired after 30 years. During retirement, he worked as needed for security or maintenance at Parkvue Retirement, assisted living and Parkvue Care Center.
Jim was an avid wood carver and life member of Ohio Decoy Carvers and Collectors Association (ODCCA), Duck's Unlimited, Magee Marsh, National Rifle Association, Knights of Columbus, American Legion, Ford UAW, Charter Captains Association, and Firelands Area runners (FAR) . He was a volunteer for FAR, ODCCA, Sandusky State Theatre, Firelands Symphony Orchestra and Merry -Go -Round museum. He also volunteered at world triathlons/ duathlons in Canada, Spain, France, Italy, Mexico, Australia, and New Zealand where his wife competed as Team USA. He also worked at many area races and triathlons. He enjoyed travel on cruise ships, and also vacations to Caribbean islands, Mexican resorts, Canada, Florida, and California. He also loved Lake Erie boating, fishing, gardening, cooking, and dancing.
Jim is survived by his wife of 58 years, Johanna (Gallam) Moore. They were married Sept. 17, 1955 at Immaculate Conception Church in Bellevue. Survivors also include sons, Mike Moore, Lakeworth, Florida, Dr. Jeffrey (Deborah)Moore , Dublin, Ohio, daughter Colleen (Al) Barton, Hemet, California; grandsons, Brad Moore, Austin and Everett Barton; brothers-in-law John (Claire) Gallam, Jack McCormick; sister-in-law, Bonnie Moore, and many nieces , nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Eugene and Edna Moore, brother, Neil Moore, and sister, Nancy McCormick.
There will be no visitation on his request and private services will be at a later date. His body will go to OSU as he wished for teaching and cremation will take place.
