Thomas George Reel died at the Stein Hospice in Sandusky, Ohio, on April 1, 2013. Tom was born in Canton, Ohio, on August 1, 1933, the youngest of four sons of Lewis Melvin Reel and Frieda Feik Reel.
He attended The Ohio State University in Columbus, Ohio, for four years and was drafted into the Navy. When he finished his Navy stint he returned to The Ohio State and finished the requirements for his degree. He lived in Milan, Ohio, for 50 years and had an office on the square for 30 years where he practiced civil engineering and surveying.
Tom attended Milan Methodist Church and sang in the church choir for years. He played softball up until his final year of life, loved fishing, golf, and disc golf, was a member of CMBC, was a ham radio operator, WB8SBJ, was a member of the Milan Cemetery Board and was involved in many other activities. While on the Cemetery Board he set up a web site whereby anyone could look up a friend or relative and find out where they were buried and see a photo of the grave marker.
He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Norma (Crisp), and their four sons, Richard of California, Edward and Steven of Columbus, Ohio, and Rodger of Bellville, Ohio, and their families. Tom was intelligent, principled, honest, reliable, selfless, encouraging, dry humored and always interesting to be around. The world has lost a wonderful man.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and two brothers, Richard and Kenneth Reel.
Friends may call on Friday from 4-7 PM in the Groff Funeral Home and Crematory 1 S. Main St. Milan, Ohio. Funeral Services will be conducted on Saturday at 10 AM in the Edison Memorial United Methodist Church 10 E. Church St. Milan, Ohio. The Rev. Barbara Stephens-Rich will officiate. Private family burial will take place in Milan Cemetery at a later date.
