Cathryn L. Grimm Nottke

Cathryn L. Grimm Nottke, 95, passed away at the Bellevue Care Center on Tuesday, April 4, 2013.

She was a lifelong resident of the Bellevue area born on Ashford Avenue in 1917 to Fred and Cora (terVeen) Grimm. After graduating from Thompson High School in 1934 she worked for Dr. Appleby on Main Street and the Zehner Packing Company on Southwest Street before marrying Charles W. Nottke in 1941 (divorced 1974). Later in life Cathryn worked as a domestic engineer and a cook at East Harbor State Park Marina, one of her favorite jobs. Cathryn loved caring for her family and others; always busy helping someone whether it was stirring apple butter for the Grange, creating a craft project for Sunday school children, crocheting or quilting. She taught Sunday school and Vacation Bible School and participated in work trips to the Red Bird Mission in Kentucky.

Cathryn was a 4-H leader, active in the Lyme School PTA, the Thompson School Alumni and the Lyme Extension. Most of all she was a devoted mother, nana, great nana and friend. In her lifetime she was always part of a Christian church family. First, as a young girl, she was a member of the Flat Rock EUB, then the Historic Lyme Congregational Church, then the First Congregational Church of Bellevue and most recently the Seybert United Methodist Church in Bellevue. One of Cathryn's greatest joys was cooking with her friends for church and community events held at Seybert UMC.

She is survived by three sisters: Martha Robinson, Columbus, Ohio, Joan Woosnam, Wadsworth, Ohio, and Mary Ellen Bowers, Florida, and her children: Jeanie (Jeff) Tennant, Florida, Richard (Sherry) Nottke, Florida, Bruce (Nancy) Nottke, Athens, Ohio, Bryan "Skip" Nottke, Bellevue, and Mary Nottke, Bellevue. Also surviving are five grandchildren; Jason (Christine) McGuire, Florida, Matthew McGuire, Florida, Marc (Charly) Nottke, Florida, Nathan (Julie) Nottke, Texas, and Sara (Jeff) Erwin, Franklin, Ohio and four great-grandchildren: Zachary Erwin, Theo Erwin, Adam Nottke, and Caitlyn Nottke.

Cathryn was preceded in death by her parents, four brothers: Richard Grimm, Fred Grimm, John Grimm, and Hunter Grimm, her grandson, Patrick McGuire, and her special friend Ralph Callaghan.

A memorial service to celebrate her life will be held at a later date.
