William Jay Waterfield, a lifelong student of history and music, died Saturday, April 13, 2013, in the St. Vincent Mercy Medical Center, Toledo, Ohio following a battle with cancer. Bill was 48 and lived in Bowling Green, Ohio.
Bill was born November 17th, 1964 to Veva Jean Wilson and William Donald Waterfield in Sandusky. He attended Perkins High School and was a member of the Class of 1983. After graduation, Bill worked as a chef at a number of area restaurants and at Whirlpool Corporation in Marion, Ohio. Bill then moved to Bowling Green, Ohio in order to continue his education and recently earned a degree in History from Bowling Green State University.
Bill's interest in and knowledge of history never faded. He performed volunteer work for the Ohio Maritime Museums, wrote and submitted articles to historical journals, and was pursuing his lifelong goal of becoming a park ranger at the Gettysburg National Military Park when he passed away. Bill also loved music and devoted much of his free time to playing guitar and bass.
Survivors include his brother, Doug Waterfield; step-siblings Rhonda and Jason Weaver; step-mother Marsha Waterfield; nephews Andrew and Nicholas Waterfield; and nieces Alexis Krupp and Holly Crum.
Friends may call Friday, April 19th from 5:00 pm until time of Memorial Service at 7:30 PM at the Pfeil Funeral Home, Sandusky Chapel, 617 Columbus Avenue, Sandusky.
The family requests that expressions of sympathy take the form of donations to the American Cancer Society.
