Charlotte E. (Dobbs) Hammersmith, 94, of Norwalk, Ohio, died Thursday morning, April 11, 2013 in Norwalk Memorial Home.

She was born February 12, 1919 in Norwalk, Ohio to the late Charles F. and Cora G. (Francis) Moll and was a lifelong area resident. Charlotte was a member of St. Paul Catholic Church and was a 1937 graduate of St. Paul High School. She graduated in 1941 from Notre Dame College, Cleveland, Ohio, and completed her Internship in Dietetics, in 1942, at St. Louis University, St. Louis, Missouri. Charlotte was employed at St. Joseph Hospital in Fort Wayne, Indiana from 1942 to 1944, at Fisher Titus Hospital, Norwalk, Ohio, from 1957 to 1959, and at Willard Area Hospital, Willard, Ohio, from 1960 until her retirement in1972. She was a member of the Daughters of Isabella, the Huron County Home Economics Association, and Willodale Farm Women's Club. Charlotte was a former Girl Scout Leader, accomplished seamstress, and enjoyed knitting, sewing, cooking, gardening, and spending time with her family.

She is survived by her daughters and son in law, Mary Dobbs Scherer and (Dr. John ) of Cedarville, Michigan, Susan Dobbs Boyle of Columbus, Ohio and Carol Dobbs Minter of Sacramento, California, by her grandchildren, Dr. Kara (Joe) Lembo, Dr. Lindsay (Darren) Montgomery, Dr. John ( Dr. Karolina) Scherer, Ashleigh Scherer, Kerry (Miranda) Boyle, Trevor Boyle, Cory Boyle, Patrick Boyle, Kendall (Josh) Truini, and Leslie (Matt) Castillo, and by her great grandchildren, Joey and Isabel Lembo, Hana, Lilly, and Evelyn Boyle, and Matthew Truini. Charlotte is also survived by her step children, Ann and Jack Frankart of Willard, Ohio, Norma J. and Lawrence Ross of Norwalk, Ohio, Paul E. and Diane Hammersmith of Willard, Ohio, James H. and Suzie Hammersmith of Norwalk, Ohio and Donna J. and Gerald Mahl of Willard, Ohio, by 20 step grandchildren, 44 step great grandchildren, 5 step great great grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews and step nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her first husband, Dr. Ross W. Dobbs in 1988 and by her second husband, Edward A. Hammersmith in 2013, by her son in law, Thomas E. Boyle in 2011,by her brother, Dr. Charles M. Moll, by two great grandchildren, Joshua Truini and Abigail Truini and by one step great grandchild.

The family wishes to extend special thanks to Charlotte and Ed's personal care givers Megan Andrews and Ruby Rieger for their loving devotion, and to the Norwalk Memorial Home and Stein Hospice staff for their kindness and generosity.

Friends may call on Sunday, April 21, 2013 from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. in Walker Funeral Home, 98 West Main Street, Norwalk, Ohio. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, April 22, 2013 at 10:30 a.m. in St. Paul Catholic Church, 91 East Main Street, Norwalk, Ohio. Msg. Kenneth Morman will officiate. Interment will be in St. Paul Cemetery.
