Esther Lorena Unckrich

Esther Lorena Unckrich, 89, of Sandusky, passed away early Sunday morning, April 28, 2013 in Parkvue Healthcare Center following a brief illness.

She was born on December 3, 1923 in Sandusky, and graduated from Sandusky High School in 1941.
She was employed for 25 years as secretary at the former Hinde & Dauch Paper Co. (Westvaco), and for 18 years at the former New Departure.

Esther was an active member of Zion Lutheran Church in Sandusky, and the Women of the Church. She played clarinet in the Vacationland Band, North Coast Concert Band, Sandusky Concert Association, and Vermilion Community Band. She particularly enjoyed playing in the bands, but also enjoyed pinochle and golf.

Esther is survived by her nephews, Don (Joan) Unkrich, of Kenmore, New York and Dick (Judy) Unkrich, of Williamsville, New York; grand-nieces, Diane (Mark) Belis, of Kenmore and Lori (Chris) Kent, of Williamsville; grand-nephews, Dave Unkrich, of N. Tonawanda, New York and Dan (Vickie) Unkrich, of Williamsville; great-grand nephews, Aaron Unkrich, of N. Tonawanda and Theodore Unkrich, of Williamsville; great-grand nieces, Kristy Unkrich, of N. Tonawanda and twins, Emma and Kaitlyn Unkrich, of Williamsville; and one step-great-grand niece, Marina Brace, of Williamsville.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Charles "Al" Unckrich and Lorena (Scholt) Unckrich; and brothers, Russel (Elva) Unkrich and Wayne Unckrich.

Friends may call from 4-7 P.M. on Friday, May 3, 2013 at Toft Funeral Home & Crematory, 2001 Columbus Ave., Sandusky. Funeral services will be held at 10 A.M. on Saturday at Zion Lutheran Church, 503 Columbus Ave., Sandusky. Rev. John Mawhirter will officiate. Burial will follow in Oakland Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made in Esther's name to Zion Lutheran Church or to Stein Hospice Services, 1200 Sycamore Line, Sandusky, OH 44870.
