Joyce E. (Parker) Orshoski, 78, of Sandusky died Wednesday morning, September 8, 2010 in the Stein Hospice Care Center, Sandusky surrounded by her loving family. She was born on December 8, 1931 in Sandusky to Steen Leroy and Doris (Wheeler) Parker. Joyce was a 1949 graduate of Margaretta High School, having transferred to Margaretta from Sandusky High School in her sophomore year. Joyce had lifelong friends from both Margaretta and Sandusky High Schools. She married Paul R. Orshoski, Sr. on July 1, 1950. After the death of her husband in 1983, Joyce worked at numerous jobs in the Sandusky area, most recently at the Information Desk of the Firelands Regional Medical Center. Joyce was a member of the Congregational United Church of Christ, Castalia. For many years, she directed a children’s choir at Grace Lutheran Church, Castalia. Joyce was a former Sunday School teacher, volunteer for Stein Hospice, and was active in the Margaretta Alumni Association, and the Castalia Area Historical Soceity. She traced her paternal father’s roots in Erie County back to 1815, when her ancestors came from Glastonbury, Connecticut by oxen train, to settle in Perkins Township. Joyce was a dynamic individual, overcoming many obstacles, and living life to its fullest. She knew people from all walks of life, and rarely forgot a face or name. She is survived by one brother: Charles Parker of Bay View, one sister: Patricia (Ron) Gearheart of Castalia, six children: Dorene (Thomas) Paul, Paul (Tevon) Orshoski, Jr., both of Sandusky, Robin (Jim) Christman of Norwalk, Todd Orshoski of Atlanta, GA., Matthew (Cynthia) Orshoski of Castalia and Kellie (Steve) Kenniston of Bellevue, 20 grandchildren: Melanie Paul, Denise Paul, Joel Paul, Shauna (Dan) Weyer, Ashley Orshoski, Paula Orshoski, Ryan Orshoski, Tina (Stephen) Green, Tamee (Jon) Schwarz, Scott Orshoski, Wesley Orshoski, Matthew Orshoski, Lauren Orshoski, Kaitlynn Orshoski, Joey Orshoski, Andrew Orshoski, Julia Orshoski, Bryon Renwand, Tony Renwand, and Casey Renwand, 12 great grandchildren: Ty Paul, Caleb Coleman, Kaiden Weyer, Benjamin Weyer, Abigayle Green, Brayden Green, Madison Schwarz, Riley Schwarz, Kyle Orshoski, Kole Orshoski, Roxie Orshoski, and Madison Orshoski, and many cousins, nieces, nephews and other relatives and close friends. She was passionate in her devotion to her family, and she will be deeply missed. She was preceded in death by her husband, Paul R. Orshoski, Sr. in 1983, her parents, one sister: Sally Fresch, one brother: Steen Thomas Parker, stepmother: Ruth Parker, and her beloved grandparents: Leroy & Ada Parker and Irene Larkins Risko. Friends may call Friday from 2:00 - 8:00 PM at the Ransom Funeral Home, 610 S. Washington Street, Castalia. On Saturday, the body will be taken to St. Paul Lutheran Church (the church that Joyce was confirmed and married by the Rev. J.A. Griffith) 2211 Mills Street, Sandusky, Ohio to lie in state from 9:30 AM until time of funeral service at 10:30 AM. The Rev. Gary Ulrich and Rev. John Paputza will officiate. Burial will be in Perkins Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Stein Hospice Service, 1200 Sycamore Line, Sandusky, Ohio 44870 or to the Commons of Providence, 5055 Providence Drive, Sandusky, Ohio 44870.
