Eugene C. Ommert

Eugene C. Ommert, 84, residing in Huron, passed away Monday, May 13, 2013 at Firelands Regional Medical Center after a brief illness.

Eugene was born on June 10, 1928 in Sandusky, Ohio to the late Claude Ommert and Hildegrad (Werner) Ommert.

Eugene was a Veteran of the United States Air Force serving as a pilot during the Korean War. He retired from New Departure Hyatt after many years. Eugene was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church Sandusky, Ohio the U.A.W. local 913. In his spare time, he enjoyed farming, reading, flying his airplane, traveling, boating, and spending time with his family and friends.

Eugene is survived by his wife Margaret (Schenk) whom he married on July 25, 1958, two daughters; Candie Ommert- Doerner of Huron, and Peggy (Chris) Senanayake of Brookfield, CT and one son Kevin (Belinda) Ommert of Huron, Ohio and five grandchildren; Christopher Doerner, Amanda Senanayake, Sarah Ommert, Brandy Ommert, and Kyle Ommert and many nieces, and nephews.

Friends may call on Thursday, May 16 from 2-4 and 6-8 PM in the Groff Funeral Home and Crematory 1607 E. Perkins Ave. Sandusky, Ohio. Funeral service will be held on Friday, May 17 at 1 PM in the funeral home. The Pastor Bill Hvalin of St. John's Lutheran Church will officiate. Burial will follow in Meadow Green Memorial Park Huron, Ohio.
