David George, 72, passed away early Sunday morning, May 12, 2013 at Stein Hospice Care following a brief illness.
He was born on October 30, 1940 in Portsmouth, Ohio to the late Greenville Earl and Ruie (Caudill) George.
David retired from the Sandusky Police force in 1989 after 23 years of service. Following retirement he donated his time to local charitable organizations and volunteered at the Sate Theatre. He was a Veteran of the United States Air Force who proudly served his country from 1960 to 1963. David was a certified Peace officer instructor. He was a member of The American Legion Post 83, Sandusky AMVETS # 17, the Sandusky Exchange Club, and an advocate of Bay Area Friends of Abused Children. In his spare time he enjoyed motorcycles, fishing, playing guitar, and spending time with friends and family.
David is survived by his two daughters, Kimberly Boyd and Debra (Joe) Ritzenthaler of Sandusky; two step-children, Bill Miller of Sandusky and Lisa Stone of Huron; seven grandchildren, Brittany Huarcas, Brandon Boyd, Carlee Richardson, Jason Miller, Jennifer Miller, Paul Grega, and Hannah Stone; six great-grandchildren; a sister, Norma Lavender of Sandusky; and many nieces and other family members.
Including his parents, he is preceded in death by his two late wives, Laverna (Miller) George and Sally (Thom) George; his son, Douglas (Linda) George; sister, Phyllis Ann George; and his step-daughter Kathleen Miller.
Friends may call Saturday, May 18, 2013 from 9:30 am until the time of F.O.P. services and memorial services at 11 AM in Faith Memorial Assembly of God, 1320 E. Strub Rd. Sandusky, Ohio 44870. Rev. Ken Hiser will be officiating. Inurnment will be held at Meadow Green Memorial Park, Huron at a later date. Groff Funeral Homes & Crematory are handling the arrangements.
