George Hoehne

George Hoehne, 84, of Sandusky, passed away on Monday morning, May 20, 2013 in his home after a brief illness.

He was born on August 30, 1928 in Hetzbach, Oldenwald, Germany. George was a soldier in the German Army at the age of 16. Imprisoned in a French Prisoner of War camp at 17 years old, George walked by night from France back to his home in Germany.

George was a railroad engineer in Germany. Once in Sandusky, he worked as a printer for Sandusky Folding Box for 35 years, then part-time for Lake Shore Graphics.

George was a longtime member of Zion Lutheran Church, where he played on the Zion 5 dartball team. He and his wife, Ann, also volunteered for Meals on Wheels for 12 years. But for George, family was his top priority.

George is survived by his wife, Anna (Holt) Hoehne; daughter-in-law, Cindi, of Columbus, Ohio; grandsons, Andrew, Jay, and Bradley; brother, Ludwig Böhmig, of Germany; sisters, Hilda Johne and Hannelore (Jacob) Neff, both of Germany; foster brother, Otto Berg, of Ontario, Canada; brother- and sister-in-law, Dewey and Adele Holt and their family, of Canada; and many nieces, nephews, and friends.

He was preceded in death by his son, George "Butch", in 2008; father, mother, and step-father; and brothers, Willie Höhne and Karl Höhne.

Friends may call on Tuesday, May 28, 2013 from 6-8 P.M. at Toft Funeral Home & Crematory, 2001 Columbus Ave., Sandusky. Friends may also call on Wednesday, May 29, 2013 from 10 A.M. until time of funeral services at 11 A.M. at Zion Lutheran Church, 503 Columbus Ave., Sandusky. Rev. John Mawhirter will officiate.
