Walter E. Ziegler, Jr., 65, of Sandusky, passed away late Wednesday evening, May 29, 2013.
He was born November 2, 1947 in Sandusky, son of the late Walter and Anne (Jones) Ziegler. He was a 1966 graduate of Perkins High School and a 1970 graduate of Ohio University with a degree in Journalism. He was a US Army Veteran of the Vietnam Era.
Wally loved the game of golf, playing year round at area courses. He passed his playing ability test July 29, 1983 to become a PGA Professional.
Wally was a member of Elks Lodge 285 of Sandusky. He inspired area youth as a mentor in several local schools.
Wally was previously employed by Bettcher Industries, Lorain Country Club as PGA Head Golf Professional, P.C. Campana, Source One, and most recently Kalahari Resorts.
Wally is survived by his wife of 38 years Carol (Trueman) Ziegler; his children, Elizabeth of Orlando, FL and Andrew of Louisville, KY; his sister, Marsha (Rob) Gerding of Port Clinton, OH; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Friends may call on Sunday, June 2, 2013 from 2:00 pm to 6:00 pm at Groff Funeral Homes & Crematory, 1607 E Perkins Ave, Sandusky, OH. A Mass of Christian Burial will be conducted by Rev. Jeffrey Sikorski on Monday, June 3, 2013 at 10:30 am at St. Peter Catholic Church 430 Main St. Huron, OH. Pastor Jeff Sherman will deliver the eulogy. Burial will take place in Meadow Green Memorial Park, Huron, OH.
Memorial contributions may be directed to a fund set up to carry out Wally's dream of working with youth in Sandusky City Schools, in care of Pastor Jeff Sherman PO Box 1529 Sandusky, OH 44871-1529 or the Kentucky Golf Foundation in care of Golf House Kentucky 1116 Elmore Just Dr. Louisville, KY 40245 to benefit golf charities in the Commonwealth of Kentucky.
