Clarence F. (Bud) Popke, 93, residing in Sandusky, passed away late Monday evening, June 3, 2013 at Firelands Regional Medical Center following a brief illness.
Clarence was born on March 11, 1920 in Sandusky, Ohio to the late Charles and Gertrude (Riesterer) Popke.
Clarence was a U.S Army veteran serving during WW II in the 351st infantry division. He was a carpenter and worked for the Local 940 for several contractors. He was a member of the Sand Hill United Methodist Church and a life member of the V.F.W. Post 2529 Sandusky, Ohio. In his spare time, he was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting, fishing, and spending time with his family and friends.
Clarence is survived by his wife, Alberta (Jarrett), whom he married on August 2, 1941; daughter, Julie Betschman of Sandusky; son, Robert Popke of Sandusky; daughter-in-law, Sue Popke of Sandusky; sister, Barbara Roccosalva of California; two brothers, Charles Popke and Donald (Carol) Popke both of Sandusky; seven grandchildren; thirteen great grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
In addition to his parents, Clarence is preceded in death by his son, William A. Popke; three sisters, Virginia Popke, Geraldine Shupp, and Mary Hotchkiss; son-in-law, Allen James Walter; and great grandson, Allen Walter.
Friends may call on Friday, June 7, 2013 from 5 to 8 PM at Groff Funeral Homes & Crematory, 1607 E Perkins Ave, Sandusky. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, June 8, 2013 at10:30 AM at Groff Funeral Homes & Crematory 1607 E. Perkins Ave. Sandusky, Ohio. The Pastor Steve Rice of Sand Hill United Methodist Church will officiate. Burial will follow at Sand Hill Cemetery Sandusky, Ohio.
