Howard John Henrichsen, 84, of Sandusky, passed away early Monday morning, June 10, 2013 in Firelands Regional Medical Center.
He was born on April 27, 1929 in Sandusky to the late Emil and Bertha Henrichsen. Howard was a Korean Conflict Veteran, serving as a staff sergeant in the Air Force 97th Bomb Wing.
He was employed as a field man by Ohio Edison for more than 35 years, retiring in 1991. Howard was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church. He was a member of the American Legion Commodore Denig Post 83, where he was a past district commander (having held all elected offices in Sandusky and District 5), helped with Buckeye Boys' State, and served as state commander for the 1974-1975 term. He was a member of the Ohio Veterans Home Volunteer Advisory Committee and volunteered with the Home's Gifts for Yanks program. Howard was also a member of the V.F.W. Post 2529, AMVETS Post 17, and Perseverance Lodge #329.
Howard is survived by brother- and sister-in-law, G. Roy and Ruth Steele; nieces and nephews, Dean (Laurie) Henrichsen, Caryl (Mike Routa) Henrichsen, Linda Henrichsen, and Marc (Brenda) Henrichsen; and great-nephews and great-niece, Pat Routa, Joe, Jacob, and Erica Henrichsen.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Mary Steele, whom he married in 1957; second wife, M. Jane Welfle, whom he married in 1999; and brothers, Charles and Howard's twin, Harold.
Friends may call on Wednesday, June 12, 2013 from 5-8 P.M. at Toft Funeral Home & Crematory, 2001 Columbus Ave., Sandusky. Funeral services will be on Thursday at 1:30 P.M. at the funeral home. Rev. Paul Birmingham will officiate. Entombment will follow in Meadow Green Memorial Park, Huron, where the American Legion Post 83 Honor Guard will provide military honors.
