Rollin G. Schwanger, 83, of Sandusky, passed away early Sunday afternoon June 16, 2013 with his family by his side, at Stein Hospice Care Center.
Rollin was born on December 14, 1929 in Sandusky, Ohio to the late Rollin G. and Ivous (Ward) Schwanger.
Rollin was a 1947 graduate of Sandusky High School. He was also a Veteran of the United States Army who proudly served his country from August 14, 1948 to August 13, 1949. He was employed as an electrician for Ferrell Cheek for over 27 years and 10 years at Sandusky Vinyl Products where he retired in 1993.
Rollin was a member of the Grace Episcopal Church, Elks #285, AMVETS and the American Legion. In his spare time, he enjoyed playing softball, volleyball, and traveling. He played football for the Sandusky Maroons. Rollin was also an avid golfer and fisherman and especially enjoyed spending time with his family and many grandchildren.
Rollin is survived by his wife of 60 years, Shirley (Burton) whom he married on June 27, 1953; his son, Tom (Becky) Schwanger, grandchildren; Josh Schwanger, Jesse (Jackie) Schwanger and Nikki Streng; six great-grandchildren; two brothers, Ted and Don Schwanger; son-in-law, Michael Dunn; numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
In addition to his parents, Rollin is preceded in death by his daughter, Cynthia Dunn- Schwanger in 2011.
Friends may call on Tuesday, June 18, 2013 from 5:00 pm to 8:00 PM at Groff Funeral Homes & Crematory, 1607 E Perkins Ave, Sandusky. The Sandusky Elks Lodge #285 will conduct memorial services Tuesday evening at 7:00 PM. Friends may also call on Wednesday, June 19, 2013 from 10:00 AM until the time of funeral services at 11:00 AM at Grace Episcopal Church, 315 Wayne St., Sandusky with Rev. Jan Wood-Smith presiding. Burial will follow in Meadow Green Memorial Park, Huron.
