Gary "Herbie" Phillips, 59, residing in Sandusky, passed away unexpectedly Thursday morning, June 20, 2013 at his residence.
Gary was born on September 25, 1953 in Marinette, WI to Myron and Eleanore (Johnson) Phillips.
Gary graduated from Bark River-Harris High School in Harris, MI. He was a lifelong roofer, beginning his roofing career working for Ned Riedy Roofers for approximately ten years. His greatest joy in life was his family. His children all excelled athletically and he proudly supported each of them at their sporting events from grade school through college. He was looking forward to watching his grandson follow in their footsteps.
Gary is survived by his wife, Deborah (Seeholzer) Phillips, whom he married on August 4, 1982. He is also survived by his sons, Patrick (Melissa) Phillips of North Ridgeville, OH and Devin Phillips of Sandusky; daughter, Kathleen Phillips of Sandusky; grandson, Jackson Phillips of North Ridgeville, OH; father, Myron Phillips of Bark River, MI; sisters, Judy (David) Peterson of Cadillac, MI and Deborah (Steven) Cannon of Mechanicville, NY; brothers, Ron (Mary) Phillips of Bark River, MI and Daniel (Elaina) Phillips of Waukesha, WI; and numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
In addition to his mother, Eleanore (Johnson) Phillips, Gary is preceded in death by his brother, Brian Phillips.
Friends may call on Monday, June 24, 2013 from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm at Groff Funeral Homes & Crematory, 1607 E Perkins Ave, Sandusky. Funeral mass will be held on Tuesday, June 25, 2013 at 11:00 am at St. Michael's Catholic Church, 219 Chappel Street, Kelleys Island with Rev. Jacob Gordon presiding. Burial will follow in Kelleys Island Cemetery, Kelleys Island, OH.
