Richard E. Gates, 67, of Monroeville, Ohio, died early Tuesday morning, June 25 2013 in his home surrounded by his loving family.
He was born June 9, 1946 in Norwalk, Ohio and was a lifelong area resident. Richard was a member of St. Alphonsus Catholic Church was a former employee of Ersil Kessling Construction Company, and Didion Construction Company, and was the owner of Richard Gates Builders since 1972. He recently retired having built many homes in the area. Richard enjoyed collecting and working on antique tractors, and gardening.
He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Betty J. (Bauer, who was raised in Milan, Ohio) Gates of Monroeville, Ohio, by his daughter and son in law, Mariellen and Charles Nay of Norwalk, Ohio, and by his grandchildren, Nicholas and Kristy Nay. Richard is also survived by his mother, Virginia (Gfell) Gates of Monroeville, Ohio, and by his siblings, Mary Ann and Richard Brooks of Monroeville, Ohio, Robert and Loretta Gates of Norwalk, Ohio and Ronald and Patricia Gates of Monroeville, Ohio, and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father, Elton Gates in 2001, by a half-brother, John Gates, and by his grandson, Joshua Nay.
Friends may call on Thursday, June 27, 2013 from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. and from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. in St. Alphonsus Catholic Church, Settlement Road, Bronson Township, where Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, June 28, 2013 at 10:30 a.m. Rev. William Pifher will officiate. Interment will be in St. Alphonsus Cemetery.
