Don Ginty

Don Ginty, 49, of Sandusky, passed away Saturday evening, June 22, 2013 at home after a lengthy illness.

Don was born on January 8, 1964 in Sandusky to the late John G. and Shirley M. (Ermatinger) Ginty.

Don was a 1982 graduate of St. Mary's High School, the Ohio Diesel Technical Institute in Cleveland and the ESI Career Center in Lorain Ohio.

Don was employed by City of Sandusky, working in the Service Center and also the Water and Sewer Dept. He was also a member of AFSCME local 1519 and previously served as its president and treasurer. He was a strong advocate of organized labor. Don was a member of the Holy Angels Catholic Church where he volunteered at the Community Supper. He enjoyed watching the races at the Sandusky Speedway, was an avid Nascar fan and while he enjoyed all sports and sporting events, his favorite sport was football. He loved the Cleveland Browns and The Ohio State Buckeyes with equal intensity through the up years and the many down years.

Don is survived by his daughter, Amber (Shane Kreuter) Ginty of Elyria; brothers and sisters; Mary Jo (Costello) of Long Beach, CA ; John (Jodi), Bellevue, OH; Carol (Dan) Geist, Boxborough, MA; Patti (Mike) Bunt of Eminence, KY; Richard, Clyde, OH; Bill, Farum, Denmark; Joe (Norah), Lancaster, OH and Mark (Bronwyn), Gahanna, OH; special nephew, Tony (Scotia) Delpercio of Vickery He is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives.

Friends may call on Friday, July 5, 2013, from 4-8 PM at Groff Funeral Homes & Crematory, 1607 E Perkins Ave, Sandusky. Friends may also call from 10 AM until time of funeral services at 11 AM on Saturday, July 6, 2013 in the funeral home. Don's brother the Rev. John Ginty will officiate. Committal services will be held on Monday, July 8th at 11 AM at Calvary Cemetery in Sandusky.
