Joseph "Joe" R. Grunden, Sr., 57, of Sandusky, died late Friday evening, June 28, 2013 in Admiral's Pointe Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.
He was born on December 2, 1951 in Sandusky to Rosemary Pugh and the late Robert Grunden. Joe was a 1970 graduate of Perkins High School.
He was a seven year veteran of the U.S. Army.
Following his time in the military, Joe graduated from Highway Trucking School. He worked for J-C Ready Mix, Monroe Service, Sandusky Lumber Company, and MC and Associates. He was also the owner of Big Joe's Pic-a-Nic Table Construction.
Joe enjoyed playing pool, being a member of two pool leagues, playing golf, and performing karaoke at local venues.
He is survived by his sons, Joseph Grunden, Jr. and Jonathan Grunden, both of Sandusky; six grandchildren; mother, Rosemary Pugh, of Sandusky; brothers, Timothy Grunden, of Columbus, Ohio, and Ted (Becky) Grunden, of Bellevue, Ohio; sisters, Martha (Dennis) Sitterly, of Norwalk, Ohio, and Miriam (Todd) Sommer, of Huron, Ohio; and a special friend, Sheila Adams.
In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Carmen; grandparents; and a niece, Kailee.
Friends may call on Monday, July 1, 2013 from 6-8 P.M. in Toft Funeral Home & Crematory, 2001 Columbus Ave., Sandusky. Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 2 P.M. in the funeral home, with the Rev. Darrell Gant, officiating. Burial will follow in Oakland Cemetery.
