Eugene Jacob "Abe" Gamble, 89, of Norwalk, Ohio died Sunday, July 21, 2013, at the Willows of Willard, Ohio.
He was born December 15, 1923 in Norwalk, Ohio to the late Clarence and Florence (Blinzley) Gamble and was a lifelong area resident. Eugene married Elsie (Heston) Gamble on July 21, 1945, and she preceded him in death in January of 2012. He was retired from Clay Products, Sandusky, Ohio and was a disabled World War II veteran. Eugene was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church, Norwalk, Ohio. He loved fishing, had been a longtime dartball player, he was proud of his military service and of his family. He was a devoted husband and caregiver to his wife for many years. It is only fitting that he died on their wedding anniversary date, having been together for 66 years.
Eugene is survived by his three daughters, Nancy (Gene) Brill of Norwalk, Ohio, Judy (Jim) Schaaf of Attica, Ohio, and Janet (Bob) Ruffing of Attica, Ohio, by 11 grandchildren, Candy (Vito) LaSala, Crystal (Greg) Scott, Jerry Brill, Tammy (Darryll) Sndyer, Dawn (Kevin) Pickett, Jacob (Dawn) Schaaf, Jaime (Joe) Priess, Jarrod (Sarah) Schaaf, Sarah (Kenny) Wells, Becca (Kyle) McConnell, and Andy Ruffing, by 20 great grandchildren, and one great great granddaughter. He is also survived by his brother, Alvin Gamble of New London, Ohio, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Eugene was preceded in death by his brothers, Charles Gamble in infancy, and Leroy Gamble, and by his sisters, Delores Horner, Grace Scheid, Jane Ward, and Mary Lou Ridge.
Friends may call on Wednesday, July 24, 2013 from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. in Walker Funeral Home, 98 West Main Street, Norwalk, Ohio. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, July 25, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. in the funeral home. Rev. Anthony Recker, Pastor of St. Mary Catholic Church will officiate. Inurnment will be in St. Paul Cemetery.
