Ellen Marguerite Amstutz, 78, of Sandusky, passed away peacefully early Wednesday morning, July 24, 2013 at Stein Hospice Care Center, following a brief illness.
She was born October 6, 1934 in Sandusky to the late Emery A. and Ione Magdelina (Klenk) Wiechel.
Ellen was a member of the Philanthropic and Educational Organization Coty College for Women in Nevada, Missouri. She was a dedicated mother and wife, and she loved to garden. She developed the ordinance for the Tree Commission and worked to have Sandusky become a Tree City, USA. She was an accomplished knitter, quilter, and seamstress. Ellen was also fascinated with genealogy, and was proud of her computer program containing over 4,000 names and data on her and her husband's ancestors.
She is survived by her husband of 57 years, James Carl Amstutz, whom she married on June 23, 1956; three children, Barbara Ellen Amstutz of Dallas, TX, David James (Joyce) Amstutz of Plano, TX and Mary Alice Wilson of Asheville, NC; two grandchildren, Allison Nicole and Caitlin Ellen Amstutz of Dallas, TX; sister-in-law, Shirley Westenbarger of Wadsworth, OH; brother-in-law, J. David (Jane)Amstutz of Chattanooga, TN; and numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.
Including her parents, she is preceded in death by her in-laws, Carl Joshua and Aileen Amstutz; and three siblings, Marion Alice Wilkens, and Richard Ralph and Robert Kent Wiechel.
Friends may call from 5:00 pm until 8:00 pm on Friday, July 26, 2013 at Groff Funeral Homes and Crematory, 1607 E. Perkins Ave. Sandusky, OH 44870. Private family services will be conducted in the funeral home with the Rev. Wanda Ray of Christ Episcopal Church officiating.
