Edward L. Herhold

Edward L. Herhold, 88, residing in Sandusky, passed away Sunday evening, July 28, 2013 at Stein Hospice Care Center surrounded by his family following a brief illness.

Edward was born on August 14, 1924 in Sandusky, OH to the late Herman and Jeanette (Duffield) Herhold.
He was a 1942 graduate of Sandusky High School. He was a Veteran of the Navy who proudly served his country during World War II. He was stationed at Tulagi in the Solomon Islands, where he repaired landing crafts. He was employed by Ralph Schaefer Company as a General Contractor for many years, where he eventually became the owner and operator for the remainder of his career retiring at age 75. Edward was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church and Sandusky Elks Lodge #285 where he served as past Exalted Ruler. He was an avid Cedar Point goer, and enjoyed fishing and working in his garden.

Edward is survived by his wife, Virginia (Schaefer) Herhold, whom he married on June 5, 1946. He is also survived by two daughters, Susan (William) Guhl of Weston, Ohio; Lisa Herhold of Sandusky, Ohio; four sons, John (Sharon) of Mathews, North Carolina, James (Sue) of Ponte Vedra, Florida, Jeffrey (Grizel) of Las Vegas, Nevada, and Steven (Lisa) Herhold of Virginia Beach, Virginia; ten grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives. He was a wonderful and loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, uncle, and was much loved by his large and extended family.

In addition to his parents, Edward is preceded in death by his son, Joseph earlier this year, his brothers, Bill and Bob and sister, Della.

Services have taken place with Groff Funeral Homes and Crematory assisting the family. Burial will take place in Calvary Cemetery, Sandusky.
