Gilbert F. Mainzer Jr., 77, Norwalk passed away on August 01, 2013 following complications of Amyloidosis.
Gilbert was born May 5, 1936 in Crestline and later moved to Norwalk as a child. He was a graduate and parishioner of St. Paul Catholic Church. He served his country in the Marines. Gilbert was a master carpenter, a member of Carpenters Local 940, a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles and the American Legion, and a board member of St. Vincent de Paul. He was an avid outdoorsman and a conservationist with membership in Bronson Conservation Club and Ducks Unlimited. Gilbert's carpentry talent built a homestead for his beloved wife and five children. His carpenter masterpieces throughout his children's homes will be forever cherished. His farming ancestry, gardening, almanac interests, bird watching, apiary and card playing have been passed down to his children and grandchildren.
Gilbert, a beloved husband, father, and grandfather, is survived by his wife Margaret (Kamann) Mainzer; children Marianne (Mainzer) Bishop, Lt. Col, USAF, NC (ret); Juliann (Mainzer) Ebeling-Koning; William Douglas Mainzer; Keith Mainzer; Peter Mainzer; their spouses Dr. Jeffery Bishop, Lt. Col, USAF MC (ret); Derek Ebeling-Koning, PhD; Julie (Labaki) Mainzer; Stacia (Kluding) Mainzer, and Laura (Landoll) Mainzer; and his three sisters; Jane Silcox, Elaine Mahl and Margaret Nestor. He was a proud and enthusiastic grandfather of 19 grandchildren.
Gilbert is preceded in death by parents; Gilbert and Elizabeth (Michelson), a sister; Kathleen and a granddaughter Britannia Bishop.
A viewing is planned for Tuesday evening, 5-8 PM, at Evan's Funeral Home, 314 E Main St, Norwalk. A mass of Christian burial at St. Paul Catholic Church, 91 E Main St, Norwalk on Wednesday at 10:30 AM. The reverend Fr. White will officiate followed by a burial at St. Paul cemetery.
