Mamie Giallombardo, 87, of Norwalk, Ohio, died early Friday morning, August 9, 2013, in Norwalk Memorial Home.
She was born September 11, 1925 in Cleveland, Ohio to the late Salvator and Maria (Badalamenti) Mazzola and came to this area in 1950 from Cleveland. Mamie was a member of St. Paul Catholic Church, where she served as a Eucharistic Minister, and was a member of the Daughters of Isabella. She was also a member of the Norwalk Lions Club, Firelands Post #2743 Veteran of Foreign Wars Auxiliary, was the former treasurer of the Huron County Democratic Women, and was the former treasurer of the Golden Agers Club.
Mamie was also a volunteer for the American Red Cross, a volunteer at the Age Exchange at the Huron County Senior Center, and was a member of the Ladies Ministry at the Norwalk Corp of the Salvation Army. She was a former employee of Rotary Printing, National City Bank, and Sears Department Store of Norwalk, Ohio. Mamie enjoyed gardening, crocheting, and especially enjoyed spending time with her family.
She is survived by her daughter, Phyllis Smith of Norwalk, Ohio, by her grandsons and granddaughters in law, Brian S. and Becky Smith of Pickerington, Ohio, David E. and Kelly Smith of Norwalk, Ohio, and Craig P. and Hope Smith of Norwalk, Ohio, 7 great grandchildren, and by her brother, Sam Mazzola of Parma, Ohio.
Mamie was preceded in death by her husband, Samuel J. Giallombardo in 2012, by her daughter, Carol Marie Gurrero in 2010, and by her brothers, Joseph and Jack Mazzola.
Friends may call on Monday, August 12, 2013 from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. and from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. in Walker Funeral Home, 98 West Main Street, Norwalk, Ohio. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, August 13, 2013 at 10:30 a.m. in St. Paul Catholic Church, 91 East Main Street, Norwalk, Ohio. Rev. Kenneth Morman will officiate. Interment will be in St. Paul Cemetery.
