Louis F. Soldatis

Louis F. Soldatis, 90, a resident of the Ohio Veterans Home, Sandusky and formerly of Massillon, passed away Thursday evening, August 8, 2013 at his residence.

He was born July 27, 1923 in Canton to the late Frank & Johanna (Frisch) Soldatis. Louis was a 1941 graduate of McKinley High School and worked at the Timken Company for one year before being drafted. He served in the Army during WW II under Patton's 471st ORD Evac Co. as a tank mechanic. Louis was a long time member of Grace United Church of Christ, Massillon, Ohio, a dedicated member of 50 plus years of the American Legion Post 221, Massillon. He was an avid bowler & golfer, and was nicknamed "Lucky Lou" because of his nine hole in ones. Lou organized and ran many golf outings and in 1983, he was one of the founders of the Stark County Senior Golf Association. In 2010, he was presented with an award for all his years of dedication for making the association a success. Louis retired from the Ohio Bell Company in Canton, after 35 years of service.

He is survived by his children: Gary Soldatis of Massillon, Betty Soldatis-Hayes of Galloway, OH., and grandchildren: Mary Lou and Sean, nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 57 years, Mary (Kipfer) Soldatis in 2005, one brother: Frank Soldatis, and three sisters: Anna Lux, Helen Sommer and Margaret Janson.

A service honoring the life and memory of Louis will be held at 11:30 AM Thursday, August 15, 2013 at the Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery, Rittman, Ohio. The Rev. Art Clippinger will officiate.

In honor of his memory, memorial contributions may be made to Grace United Church of Christ, 933 Main Avenue West, Massillon, Ohio 44647 or to the Ohio Veterans Home, 3416 Columbus Avenue, Sandusky, Ohio 44870.
