Leonard P. "Pete" Wilhelm, 86, of Monroeville died Thursday morning, August 15, 2013 in the Fisher-Titus Medical Center, Norwalk following a brief illness. He was born June 10, 1927 in Monroeville, where he was a life long resident.
Pete retired from New Departure-Hyatt, Division of General Motors, where he was employed for 38 years. He also was the custodian of the Union Bank and the Knights of Columbus Hall in Monroeville. He was a lifetime member and past Grand Knight of the Knights of Columbus, St. John Newman, Chapter No. 1117, member of the Holy Name Society, Golden Eagles, and a former member of the American Legion Post 547, Monroeville and the Bronson Conservation League, Norwalk. His hobbies included his grandchildren, playing cards, camping, gardening, dartball, farming, and watching the Cleveland Indians and the Cleveland Cavaliers, and his favorite pro athlete was LeBron James.
He is survived by his wife of 63 years, the former Ruth M. Long, whom he married October 1, 1949, his children: Diane (Larry) Schafer of Norwalk, Robert (Kim) Wilhelm of Monroeville, Julie (Gary) Click of Willard, Kenneth (Karyn) Wilhelm, Dennis (Sandy) Wilhelm, Alan (Tonya) Wilhelm, all of Monroeville, Rita (Gary) Turner of Columbus, Lucy (Gerald) Bollenbacher of Bellevue, and Karen (Keith) Gerber of Monroeville, 22 grandchildren, 23 great grandchildren, one brother: Norbert (Gerry) Wilhelm of Monroeville, one sister-in-law: Theresa Wilhelm of Norwalk, nieces, nephews and other relatives.
He was preceded in death by his parents: Walter & Matilda (Meyers) Wilhelm, and two brothers: Arnold & Harold "Shorty" Wilhelm.
Friends may call from 2:00-8:00 PM Sunday, August 18, 2013 at the Pfeil Funeral Home, Monroeville Chapel, 109 Monroe Street, Monroeville, where the Knights of Columbus will recite the rosary at 1:30 PM Sunday. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 AM Monday, August 19, 2013 in the St. Joseph Catholic Church, 66 Chapel Street, Monroeville. The Rev. William Pifher will officiate. Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery, Monroeville.
