Vernabelle (Brokate) Lenke, age 87, formerly of 1515 E. Perkins Avenue, Sandusky, Ohio, currently a resident of Riverview Healthcare Campus, 8180 W State Rte 163, Oak Harbor, Ohio passed away on August 20, 2013 at Riverview Healthcare Campus, Oak Harbor, Ohio after an illness.
She was born October 8, 1925 in Port Clinton, Ohio. She was a 1943 graduate of Port Clinton High School. She was employed at Mr. Wiggs for 9 years, Herman Furniture for 5 years, and Sears Department Store for 3 years. Vernabelle is a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church, Port Clinton and attended St. Paul Lutheran Church, Sandusky. She enjoyed helping older people.
Mrs. Lenke is survived by three sons; Thomas C. Lenke of Reston, VA, Steven M (Mary) Lenke of Charles Town, WV, and John C (Laura) Lenke of Grand Rapids, OH, Diane (Frederick Lenke III) Lenke of Sandusky, five grandchildren; Tina (Lenke) Walton, Jeffery Lenke, Adam Lenke, Jaime Lenke, and Mitchell Lenke, four great-grandchildren; Unique (Nikki Powell), Jessica Walton, Jonathan Walton and Kylar Lenke, two great-great-grandchildren; Kaleb Towner and Londyn Towner, two sisters; Velma McMillin, Doris Berry, and a brother, Myron, all of Euclid, OH and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded into death by her husband, Frederick “Jack” Lenke Jr. in 1980, her son Frederick “Rick” LenkeIII in 2012, her parents; Clarence and A. Adelaide (Rademacher) Brokate, a granddaughter; Sue Ann Lenke, one sister in infancy, and her grandparents, John and Sophie (Meter) Brokate and Charles and Ellena (Sass) Rademacher.
Visitation: Thursday, August 22, 2013 from 4 to 7 PM at the Groff Funeral Home, 1607 E. Perkins Avenue, Sandusky, OH 44870. Funeral services will be conducted on Friday, August 23, 2013 at 11:00 AM in St. John’s Lutheran Church, 207 Adams Street, Port Clinton, OH 43425. Reverend Karl Kessler will officiate. She will be buried beside her husband in Roose Cemetary, Oak Harbor. A luncheon gathering of friends will follow at St Paul Lutheran church, rural Oak Harbor.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St John Lutheran Church, 207 Adams St., Port Clinton, Lutheran Home of Mercy in Williston, OH or the Heart Fund.
