Joseph J. Legando, 78, residing in Sandusky, passed away early Wednesday morning, August 21, 2013 at Firelands Regional Medical Center after a brief illness.
Joe was born on May 20, 1935 in Sandusky, OH to the late James and Gretchen (May) Legando.
Joe graduated from Huron High School. He was employed with the Huron OAR Docks, owned and operated Joe's Pizza Hut, and retired from his own contracting business, Joe's Home Improvement. He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church. In his spare time he enjoyed carpentry, jigsaw puzzles, playing cards, and especially watching his children's and grandchildren's sporting events throughout the years.
Joe is survived by his three daughters, Lisa (Steve) Carpenter of Lewis Center, OH, Kari (Troy) Roth of Castalia, OH and Betsy (Jason) Samstag of Huron, OH; two sons, Jim Legando of Columbus, OH and Todd Legando of Sandusky; ten grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
In addition to his parents, Joe is preceded in death by two sisters, Angela Horner and Evelyn Daughtry.
A memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be conducted on Saturday, August 24, 2013 at 10:00 am at St. Mary's Catholic Church, 429 Central Ave., Sandusky with Fr. Joe Steinbauer presiding. Burial will be in Meadow Green Memorial Park, Huron, OH at a later date.
