Bernard J. Rinner, 91, of Norwalk, Ohio, died Friday morning, August 23, 2013, surrounded by his family, in Fisher-Titus Medical Center from complications of Pneumonia.
He was born July 8, 1922 in Rockville, Connecticut, to the late Peter J. and Mary L. (Goretski) Rinner and was a lifelong area resident. Bernard was a veteran of the U.S. Army and served in 4 major campaigns in WW II including Normandy and the Battle of the Bulge. He was a member of St. Paul Catholic Church, was a 3rd Degree Knight of Columbus, Council #626, and was a life member of Firelands Post #2743 Veterans of Foreign Wars.
Bernard was a former employee of the Perry Foy Company of Elyria, Ohio, Sandusky Glass Company, Norwalk Truck Line, Spector Mid-State Truck Line, Chicago Express Truck Line, and retired in 1983 from McLean Trucking Company of Chicago, Illinois. He was a former bus driver for St. Paul sporting events, and was a strong supporter of Boys Town. He enjoyed playing cards, fishing and hunting, was an avid Cleveland Indians Fan, and especially enjoyed spending time with his family and friends.
Bernard is survived by his children, Michelle (Shelley) Rinner of Norwalk, Ohio, Cynthia (Rodney) Iehle of Maryland, Dale (Debbie) Rinner of Texas, Mary Rinner (Chuck Ellis) of Berlin Heights, Ohio, and Patrick (Susan) Rinner of Bellevue, Ohio. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Heather Book, April Dunn, and Melia (Art) Metcalf, all of Norwalk, Ohio, Jeremy (Emily) Rinner of Texas, Brittany (Daniel) Long of Albuquerque, New Mexico, Tess (Michael) Asham of Berlin Heights, Ohio, and Tyler Chappelear of Berlin Heights, Ohio, Melissa Rinner of Florida, Jessica Iehle of Connecticut, and Tara Rinner of Bellevue, Ohio, and by his great grandchildren, LCPL Andrew Book, Taylor Book, Braylynn and Colby Metcalf, John, Audrey, and Kate Rinner, Mitch Asham, Brenton and Brianna Pohto, and one great grandchild soon to be born. He is also survived by his brother, Thomas Rinner, by his sister, Mary Agnes Conley, by his sister in law, Judy Rinner, and by his lifelong friend, Leon Hoernschemeyer, all of Norwalk, Ohio.
Bernard was preceded in death by his wife, Therese in 2012, by his brother, George Rinner, by his sister and brother in law, Evelyn and William White, and by his sister in law, Cortes Rinner.
Friends may call on Sunday, August 25, 2013 from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. in Walker Funeral Home, 98 West Main Street, Norwalk, Ohio. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, August 26, 2013 at 1:30 p.m. in St. Paul Catholic Church, 91 East Main Street, Norwalk, Ohio. Rev. Nathan Bockrath will officiate. Interment will be in St. Paul Cemetery.
