Anthony "Tony" Daniel Smith, 58, Sandusky, transitioned from this life on Wednesday, August 21, 2013, in the Stein Hospice Care Center, after a brief illness.
He was born on September 15, 1954 in New Orleans, LA.
Tony graduated and enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1975. After his honorable discharge from the Navy he resided in Springfield, MA, where he was employed by Aetna Insurance and Grife Inc. He returned to Sandusky in 2006.
He was a member of Porters Memorial C.M.E. Church, Sandusky.
He is survived by his wife, Ann Lewis Smith, Oklahoma; sons, Rodrigo (Stephanie) Davis, U.S. Army, Dayton, OH, Antonio "Bear" Brown, Sandusky, and Gary Daniel Smith, U.S. Air Force, Colorado;, mother, Geneva Russell, Sandusky; special friend, Sylvia Henderson; brothers, Clifton (Melanie) Russell, Minister Howard (Sherron) Carr and Jamie Devese, all of Sandusky; sisters, Barbara (Kenneth) Parker, Columbus, OH, Evangelist Gail Tate, Euclid, OH, Jo Cynthia Keels, Elder Gwendolyn (Pastor Phillip) Moorer, Cathy Devese Blissett, and Tonya Taylor-Hughes, all of Sandusky; special adopted sisters and brother, Cookie Lee Miller, Bernita White, Elroy and Lula Rollison; six grandchildren; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his fathers, Robert S. Russell, Sr., and Melvin Devese; maternal and paternal grandparents; sister, Gloria (Russell) Wood; brother, Minister Robert Russell, Jr.; and a niece, Felecia Anne McGill.
Friends may call on Monday, August 26, 2013 from 6-8 P.M. in the Porter Memorial C.M.E. Church, 1722 Third St., Sandusky. Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 1 P.M. in the church, Rev. Ian Gibson will officiate, and Pastor Phillip Moorer will provide the eulogy. Burial will be in Meadow Green Memorial Park, Huron.
