Walter Irvin Doughty

Walter Irvin Doughty, age 85, of Fremont, went to be with the Lord on August 26, 2013 at Memorial Hospital in Fremont.

He was born January 16, 1928 in Huron to the late Harvey and Nina (Wright) Doughty, and was a lifelong area resident. He was a graduate of Norwalk High School, in the Ohio State Guard from 1944 until 1950 and was on active duty in the US Army from 1951 to 1954, where he was stationed in Heidelberg, Germany. There he met his future wife of 55 years, Elsie. Upon returning to the United States Walter worked at Norwalk Paper Box, which later became Boxboard Packaging of America from 1954 to 1991, when he retired to live in Fremont. He was a member of the Firelands Post 2743 Veterans of War in Norwalk. Some of his hobbies included photography, woodworking, fishing and hunting.

He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Erika (James) Gensman of Port Clinton; grandchildren, Michael (Denise) Dailey of Fredericksburg, VA and Michele (Brian) Funk of Fremont; three great grandchildren, five great-great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Elsie (Loeffler) Doughty in 2007; sisters, Mabel Wonder, Hazel Applebee, Margariet Thompson, Lois Clark, Carol Withrow; and brother, Thomas.

Friends may call on Wednesday from 12:00 noon until time of service at 1:00 P.M. at the Evans Funeral Home, 314 E. Main Street, Norwalk. Burial will follow at Meadow Green Memorial Park, Huron.
