Gary C. Streng, 71, residing in Milan, passed away Thursday afternoon, August 29, 2013 at Firelands Regional Medical Center after an unexpected illness.
Gary was born on June 10, 1942 in Sandusky, OH to the late Carl and Betty (Lawrence) Streng.
Gary was a 1960 graduate of Sandusky High School. He was a Veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps proudly serving his country during the Vietnam War while stationed in Cuba. He retired from Schlessman Seed Company in 2006 after 40 years of service as the warehouse foreman. Gary was a member of the Milan Methodist Church, Sandusky Amvets Post 17 and the Amateur Softball Association of America. He enjoyed all sports, but his favorite was softball. His passion was evident by his 50 years of playing, coaching and umpiring the sport. He also enjoyed playing Texas hold'em, and spending time with his family and friends.
Gary is survived by his wife, Karen (Wood) Streng, whom he married on August 24, 1968. He is also survived by his daughter, Tricia (Dan) Samuel of Norwalk; son, Brad (Deb) Streng of Sandusky; three grandchildren, Kaydee Streng, Garrick Horton and Aliceon Klotz; great-granddaughter, Karleigh Klotz; sister, Sandy (Chuck) Showalter of Sandusky; brother, Jeff (Mel) Streng of Sandusky; and numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
Friends may call on Wednesday, September 4, 2013 from 2:00 to 4:00 pm and 6:00 to 8:00 pm at Groff Funeral Homes & Crematory, 1607 E Perkins Ave, Sandusky. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, September 5, 2013 at 10:30 am in the funeral home with Pastor Doug Lang of New London Alliance Church presiding. Burial will follow in Meadow Green Memorial Park, Huron.
