Karleen L. Wieber

Karleen L. Wieber, 64, residing in Sandusky, passed away Sunday, October 27, 2013 at Firelands Regional Medical Center after a lengthy illness.

Karleen was born on September 1, 1949 in Providence, RI to the late Emery and Norma (Costanzo) Jernquist. She graduated from Cranston East High School in Providence, RI.

Karleen's tremendous work ethic, love for her family and community was evident by all who knew her. She co-founded the Wightman Wieber Foundation in 2000 and through the work of the foundation she touched the hearts and lives of many young people. Her laughter was contagious and her positive outlook encouraged others.
Karleen was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Sandusky. She was president of the AFS Exchange Students program in Sandusky.

Karleen volunteered for Sandusky City Schools for the Chapter I Reading program, and as a Cheerleader Advisor, Cafeteria Chair-person and Girl Scout Leader. In her application for full-time employment, she wrote "I would like to become a Teacher's Aide, because I like working with the children and teachers, and helping them to learn." Karleen began working as a Library Technician at Sandusky High School in 1984. In 1990 she began her 22-year service as the manager of the District Supplementary Center, which was a regional media center for Erie County. For the past year and a half, Karleen worked in the Instructional Technology department. She was completing her thirtieth year with Sandusky City Schools and planned to retire in June.

Karleen is survived by her husband of 45 years, Thomas Wieber; three daughters, Dawn (Chris) Varuola, Jennifer (John) Chapman and Shannon (Gary Jr.) Clark, all of Sandusky; thirteen grandchildren, Elyse, Ted Thomas, Kasey, Abbey, Megan, Bailie, Brock, Adam, Bennett, Brayden, Dawson, KarleeAnn and Mallory; one great-grandson, Ashton; one sister, Karen (Richard) Jernquist Petty of Summerville, SC; one brother, Keith Jernquist of Los Angeles, CA; one half-sister, Tracey Duffy of California; and numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives.

In addition to her parents, Karleen is preceded in death by her daughter, KarrieAnn Wieber in 1989.

Friends may call on Tuesday, October 29, 2013 from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm at Groff Funeral Homes & Crematory, 1607 E Perkins Ave, Sandusky. Friends may also call from 10:00 am until the time of funeral services at 11:00 am on Wednesday, October 30, 2013 at Zion Lutheran Church, 503 Columbus Ave., Sandusky, OH 44870 with Pastor Kathleen Shuck presiding. Burial will follow in Oakland Cemetery, Sandusky.
