Vera E. Cook, 89, of Norwalk, Ohio, died Tuesday, November 19, 2013 in Norwalk Memorial Home.
She was born December 3, 1923 in Vigo County, Indiana to the late Jesse E. and Eula C. (Williams) Lewis and came to this area in 1956 from Monroe, Michigan.
Vera attended St. Paul Episcopal Church, Norwalk, Ohio, and was a member of Queen Esther Chapter #15, Order of the Eastern Star, Norwalk, Ohio. Vera retired from Fisher-Titus Medical Center, Norwalk, Ohio, as the Nursing Supervisor. She was a resident of Norwalk Memorial Home where she was an active advocate for patient rights. Vera enjoyed camping and playing cards, and spending time with her grandchildren, and great grandchildren. She is survived by her children, Marguerite "Peg" and Eddie Bressman of Norwalk, Ohio, Janice and Bill Knadler of Norwalk, Ohio, Richard H. and Kitty Cook of Algonquin, Illinois, Paul L. and Janet Cook of Belleville, Michigan, six grandchildren and five great grandchildren. She is also survived by her siblings, Jesse W. Lewis of Terre Haute, Indiana, Charles W. Lewis of Indianapolis, Indiana, Florence E. Tyler of Dayton, Ohio, Betty R. Snyder of Terre Haute, Indiana, by her sister in law Wilma Lewis, of Plano Texas, and by her step brother in law, James R. and Rita Van Hentenryck of Wakeman, Ohio, and numerous nieces and nephews. Vera is also survived by dear friends, Mary Lieb, Lois Myers, Frances Fleming, and Vonda Spiegel, all of Norwalk, Ohio.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Richard E. Cook in 1998, and by her brothers, Milton Lewis and James Lewis. Friends may call on Friday, November 22, 2013 from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. in Walker Funeral Home, 98 West Main Street, Norwalk, Ohio, with Eastern Star services at 5:00 p.m. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, November 23, 2013 at 10:00 a.m. in the funeral home, Rev. Margaret D'Anieri will officiate. Interment will be in Meadow Green Memorial Park Cemetery, Huron, Ohio.
