Dale R. Coffman, Sr., 77, of Sandusky, died late Saturday evening, November 23, 2013 in the Firelands Regional Medical Center, Sandusky following a lengthy illness.
He was born October 12, 1936 in Sandusky and was a 1956 graduate of Sandusky High School.
Dale served four years in the Ohio National Guard, then served an additional four years in the U.S. Navy. He was a 40 year member of the IBEW Local Union No. 867 and 129, prior to his retirement. Dale was a member of Resurrection Lutheran Church, Sandusky, Erie County Conservation Club, Commodore Denig Post 83 of the American Legion, Amvets Post 17, Perseverance Lodge No. 329, F. & A.M., and a 32 degree Mason, Scottish Rite, Valley of Toledo. He was an avid reader, enjoyed gardening, fishing, and loved his family, especially his grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife of 54 years, the former Betsy F. Aust, three children: Susan (Doug) Coffman-Wolbert, Dale R. (Ellen) Coffman, Jr., and Don (Teresa) Coffman, all of Sandusky, five grandchildren: Tom Colvin, Kelli Lottman, Ian, Dylan and Oliviana Coffman, two sisters: Peggy Carney, April (John) Prentice, one brother: John (Arlene) Coffman, III, all of Sandusky, nieces, nephews and other relatives.
He was preceded in death by his parents: John L. & Ruth (Steffen) Coffman, Jr. and his grandparents.
Friends may call Tuesday, November 26, 2013 from 4:00 - 7:00 PM at the Pfeil Funeral Home, Sandusky Chapel, 617 Columbus Avenue, Sandusky, where Perseverance Lodge will hold a Masonic Memorial Service at 6:30 PM Tuesday. Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 AM Wednesday, November 27, 2013 in the Resurrection Lutheran Church, 216 Pennsylvania Avenue, Sandusky. The Rev. Kathleen Shuck will officiate. Burial will be in Perkins Cemetery.
