Richard D. "Dick" Ensign

Richard D. "Dick" Ensign, 80, of Norwalk, Ohio, died Thursday morning, December 5, 2013 in Fisher-Titus Medical Center.

He was born November 8, 1933 in Wauseon, Ohio to the late Clifford and Gladys (Reed) Ensign.

Dick retired from Ford Motor Company and was a former employee of Parts Distributors, Inc. He was a member of Eagles Aerie #711, Norwalk, Ohio, and the Sandusky Speedway Hall of Fame. Dick, and his wife Barb, loved taking their camper out and attending bluegrass festivals. He could usually be found trading stories with anyone who stopped by to chat. Dick was an avid car and truck enthusiast. He was an accomplished stock car racer, achieving many awards and victories over his 13 year racing career, including two track championships at Sandusky Speedway in 1978 and 1979. Dick enjoyed watching NASCAR and NHRA drag racing, and spent numerous Saturday nights at Sandusky Speedway watching his son, Tim, race. Above all else, Dick loved his family and friends.

He is survived by his wife, Barbara Lee (Hickman) Ensign, whom he married October 29, 1955 in Norwalk, Ohio, by his children, Keith D. Ensign of Norwalk, Ohio, Kim (John) Blair of Georgia, and Tim (Allison) Ensign of Norwalk, Ohio, 12 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren, and by his brother, Robert Ensign of Sandusky, Ohio.

Dick was preceded in death by his son, Gregg A. Ensign in 2003, and by his sister, Delores (Ensign) Lenartz. Special thanks, and much love, to the families' special friend, Jan Hall. Friends may call on Saturday, December 7, 2013 from 12:00 Noon until the time of Memorial Services at 3:00 p.m. in Walker Funeral Home, 98 West Main Street, Norwalk, Ohio. Rev. Carl Woodyard, Pastor of Mt. Harvest Church of God will officiate.
