Joseph F. Czeczele age 88 of Bellevue passed away Tuesday, Dec. 10, 2013 at Bellevue Hospital.
He was born Nov. 6, 1925 in Bellevue the son of the late Michael & Mary (Bella) Czeczele.
Joe was retired from Armstrong Air where he was in quality control. He enlisted at age 17 in the US Navy during WWII. Joe participated in the Battle of the Philippines and the battle of Okinawa where he was awarded the Navy Commendation and The Presidential Unit Citation.
Joe was a member of Immaculate Conception Church, American Legion Post # 93, Life member of Bellevue VFW Post 1293 and USS-LCS 118 Naval Veterans Assoc. Only 6 crew members survive.
Survivors include his daughters; Gail (Gerald) Foos of Bellevue, Gloria Van Meter of Worthington, sisters; Irene Canode of Bellevue, Helen Czeczele of Bellevue, 6 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by his wife Juanita (Zielske) Czeczele whom he married Sept. 27, 1961 in Monroe, MI., brothers; Basil and Michael Czeczele, 2 sisters and his granddaughter Leslie Foos and great-grandson Chad Critelli.
Friends will be received Thursday, Dec. 12, 2013 from 4 - 7 pm at Foos and Foos Funeral Service, 151 Yorkshire Place, Bellevue. A funeral Mass will be held Friday, Dec. 13, 2013 at 10:30 am at Immaculate Conception Church, 231 E. Center St., Bellevue. Burial will follow at Bellevue Catholic Cemetery.
