Mother Lucille Roberts, 81, Sandusky, went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, January 22, 2011 in Concord Care & Rehabilitation Center, Sandusky.
She was born on October 20, 1929 in Beaver Dam, Mississippi, to Wilson Beard and Nolie (Arrington) McGill. She accepted the Lord at an early age in Bethlehem Baptist Church, Waynesboro, MS, and upon moving to Sandusky, joined Assembly of Jesus Christ Church for a short time, and later became a faithful member of New Jerusalem Missionary Baptist Church, where she served on the Mothers' Board Ministry and the Usher Board Ministry. She was a founding member of the Order of the Eastern Star, Chapter #193, where she served in many capacities. Mother Lucille worked for Plum Brook Country Club for thirty-two years, and later at Cedar Point until she retired in 1986.
Leaving to cherish her precious memories are her husband of sixty-two years, Willie Lee Roberts; children, Homer (Joyce) McGill, Willie Ray (Beverly) Roberts, David Lee (Cheryl) Roberts, and Margaret Jean Cacho; special daughter, Aretha (Alonzo) Brown; fifteen grandchildren; twenty-two great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; godchild, Tameeka Galloway; best friend and another founding member of Electa Chapter #193, Sis. Lillie Mae Simpson; and many nieces, nephews, sisters-in-law, other family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; son, David Lee; brothers, Woodrow, Louis, and Willie; sisters, Sutie, Docie, Grace, Viola, and Birdie; grandchild, Felecia McGill; and great-grandchild, Johnny Smith, Jr..
Friends may call on Friday, January 28, 2011 from 11 AM until time of Order of the Eastern Star services at 12:30 PM, with the homegoing celebration beginning at 1PM, in New Jerusalem Missionary Baptist Church, 1920 Shelby St. Sandusky. Pastor Curtis L. Johnson, Jr. will officiate. Burial will be in Oakland Cemetery. Toft Funeral Home & Crematory, 2001 Columbus Ave., Sandusky, is assisting with arrangements.
