Willie C. Gambrell, 70, Sandusky, died on Friday, January 21, 2011 in Firelands Reg. Med. Center, after a lengthy illness.
She was born on April 22, 1940 in Nashville, Tennessee. She graduated from Sandusky High School in 1959, and attended both the Ohio State Barber College of Toledo and the Ohio State School of Cosmetology. She retired from Ford Motor Co. after thirty years of service. Willie was a member of Ebenezer Baptist Church, where she served on the usher board as a funeral officer, and received an award from the Youth Fellowship and Gospel Festival, and she was a member of the NAACP. She enjoyed traveling, sewing, crafts, bowling, baking her special chocolate pound cake, and serving others.
Willie is survived by her husband, James Gambrell, whom she married on Nov. 15, 1986; step-son, Kenny Gambrell; sister, Althea (Rubin) Johnson; brother, Stanley (Debbie) Webster, all of Sandusky; and other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Willie and Jennie (Cox) Webster; maternal and paternal grandparents, and other cherished family members. Friends may call on Wednesday, January 26, 2011 from 11 AM until time of funeral services at 1 PM in Ebenezer Baptist Church, 1215 Pierce St., Sandusky. Rev. Clayton E. Howard will officiate. Burial will be in Oakland Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Ebenezer Baptist Church. Toft Funeral Home & Crematory, 2001 Columbus Ave., Sandusky, is assisting with arrangements.
