John Pheiffer, 59, residing in Sandusky, passed away unexpectedly Thursday, December 23, 2013 at his residence.
John was born on September 28, 1954 in Sandusky, Ohio to the late Paul Henry and Catharine Jane "CJ" (Dorn) Pheiffer.
John was a 1972 graduate from Sandusky High School. He attended both Emory and Heidelburg Universities. He was president of Sandusky Bay Development Company which operates Battery Park Marina and Battery Park Marine Services. He is past president of Dorn Industries,
American Crucible Products of Lorain, Ohio. John was a member of St. Stephen United Church of Christ, Plum Brook Country Club, Rockwell Springs Trout Club, Rotary Club and various National Marina Associations. He was a past chairman of the Erie County Chamber of Commerce, board member for Citizens Banking Company since 2001, and also a member and served on committees for the First Citizens Banc Corporation since 2007.
John is survived by his sisters, Paula J. (David) Rengel of Sandusky, Jane C. Petree of Centerville, OH, Elizabeth K. Pheiffer of Greenville, SC; Aunt Ruth Pheiffer Shanower; nieces, Caroline E. Borkey of Charlotte, NC, Erin L. Petree of New York, NY, Michelle C. Borkey of Greenville, SC, Jennifer L. Petree of Centerville, OH; nephews, David P. (Remy) Rengel of Des Moine, Iowa, Stephen E. (Kate) Rengel of Ocala, FL, Andrew P. Rengel of Chicago, IL, Christopher J. Petree of Centerville, OH, J. Michael Borkey of Greenville, SC; grand niece, Olivia S. Rengel of Des Moine, Iowa; cousin, George Mylander; faithful companion, Bleu and many other cousins and friends.
In addition to his parents, John is preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, J. Richard and Verna (Waldock) Dorn; paternal grandparents, Rev. Harry E. and Beatrice (Woelert) Pheiffer and a brother-in-law, David C. Petree.
Friends will be received on Monday, December 30, 2013 from 10:00 am until the time of the memorial service at 11:00 am at St. Stephen United Church of Christ 905 E. Perkins Ave., Sandusky, Ohio with Rev. Edgar Shelly officiating. Groff Funeral Homes and Crematory are handling the arrangements.
