Robert M. Schmidt, 71, residing in Sandusky, passed away Saturday afternoon, January 4, 2014 at Firelands Regional Medical Center after a brief illness.
Robert was born on August 25, 1942 in Sandusky, OH to the late Elton and Dorothy (Aicher) Schmidt.
Robert is a 1961 graduate from Sandusky High School. He is a veteran of the United States Air Force. He was retired from the former New Departure Hyatt plant as a furnace operator in 1999 after 31 years service. In his spare time, he enjoyed bowling; belonging to many leagues, loved the Ohio State Buckeyes, Cleveland Browns and Indians, and spending time with his family and friends, especially at picnics and cookouts.
Robert is survived by his wife, Mary Ann (Followay) Schmidt, whom he married on August 25, 1986. He is also survived by his daughters, Michelle (Kevin) Tharrett, Christine (Jerry) Cornell, Lisa Fairbanks, Tracy (Jeff) White, all of Gouverneur, New York, and Heather (Brad) Kraft of Norwalk; son, Adam Ford of Sandusky; ten grandchildren, Darren, Julie, Timmy, Cassandra, Erik, Brittany, Ashley, Courtney, Bubba and Cody; sisters, Judy Withrow of Cynthiana, Kentucky, Sandra Riedy and Lynda McCutcheon both of Sandusky; numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives, and his dog, Missy.
In addition to his parents, Robert is preceded in death by his sister, Karen Nelson.
Friends may call on Tuesday, January 7, 2014 at 1:00 pm up until the time of services at 2:00 pm in the mausoleum at Meadow Green Memorial Park, Huron, Ohio.
