Mary J. April, 87, of Norwalk, Ohio, died Saturday, January 4, 2014 in Norwalk Memorial Home.
She was born June 9, 1926 in Columbus, Ohio to the late Arthur and Bess (Sharon) Ross and came to this area in 1947 from Columbus.
Mary was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church, where she was a Eucharistic Minister, taught CCD classes, former Parish Council member, and helped develop the 55 Plus Club. She was a former cook at Christie Lane School and the Huron County Sherriff's Department. Mary was a member of the Anniversary Club, enjoyed traveling, and helping her husband with his projects. She and her husband were the 2012 Huron County Fair King and Queen.
Mary is survived by her husband of 68 years, Elwin E. April of Norwalk, Ohio, by her children, Mary S. Ringlein of Norwalk, Ohio, Robert A. (Janet) April of Norwalk, Ohio, Karen L. (Terry) Trumpower of Norwalk, Ohio, Patricia M. (Jerry) Hykes of Highland Springs, Virginia, Terry A. Board of Norwalk, Ohio, and John M. April of Hanibal, New York, 19 grandchildren, and 16 great grandchildren. She is also survived by her brothers, Lawrence (Norma) Ross of Norwalk, Ohio, and Gerald (Jean) Ross of Berlin Heights, Ohio, and by her sisters, Louise (Wayne) Allen of Norwalk, Ohio, Patricia Schnell of Norwalk, Ohio, and Dorothy (Harold) Goodsite of Tennessee.
Mary was preceded in death by an infant son, Joseph April, by her brother, Bill Ross, and by her sisters, Betty Estep and Kathleen Burley.
Friends may call on Tuesday, January 7, 2014 from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. in Walker Funeral Home, 98 West Main Street, Norwalk, Ohio. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday, January 8, 2014 at 10:30 a.m. in St. Mary Catholic Church, 38 West League Street, Norwalk, Ohio. Rev. Anthony Recker will officiate. Interment will be in St. Mary Cemetery.
