Mrs. Bernice Bonner, 84, Sandusky, went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, January 8, 2014, in her home.
She was born on December 17, 1929 in Meridian, MS, and lived most of her life here in Sandusky.
Bernice was a member of Oak Grove CME Church in Lauderdale, MS, and when she moved to Sandusky, she joined Porter Memorial CME Church, and was a member of the Women's Missionary Society for over 61 years, a devoted Christian. She was a member of the Lakeview Chapter #65 Order of Eastern Star, and enjoyed working on the Cook and Bonner family tree. Bernice loved to have yard parties for all the children in her backyard, a great cook, hosting the holidays for the family, a seamstress, Bernice was a very artistic person.
She leaves to cherish her memory, daughters, B. Joyce (Earl) Brown, and Patricia "Diane" Harrington, both of Sandusky; sons, Tony (Joe Ann) Bonner, and Edgar Bonner, Jr. (fiancée Erna Keahey); special granddaughter who cared for her in her home, Stephanie Brown; a host of other grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren; sisters, Betty Henson, Shirley "Jean" Gowdy, and Mildred Anderson; several other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband Edgar Bonner, Sr.; parents, Jessie and Mary Jane (Vivans) Anderson, Sr.; brothers, Louis "L.C.", Sam "S.T.", Jessie, Jr., Edward James , James Henry., and Ambous; sisters, Corrine Miller and Dorothy Durham; and a great-grandson, Cornelius D. Miller.
Friends may call on Friday, January 17, 2014, from 11 A.M. until time of funeral services at 12 P.M. Noon in Porter Memorial CME Church, 1722 Third St., Sandusky. Rev. Ian Gibson will officiate, and Rev. Bruce Gibson will provide the eulogy. Burial will be in Oakland Cemetery.
