James H. Bickley, Sr., 82, of Sandusky, died Saturday morning, January 11, 2014 in the Firelands Regional Medical Center, Sandusky following a brief illness.
He was born September 27, 1931 in Norwalk and was a 1951 graduate of Milan High School.
James was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War. Jim was a self-employed truck driver until his retirement. Prior to this, he was a machinist at the former Sandusky Foundry, the former Union Chain, and Clevite. He was a member of the Sandusky Community Church of the Nazarene, the National Rifle Association, and the Commodore Denig Post 83 of the American Legion. His hobbies included building and fixing things, music and singing. He had a deep relationship with his Savior. He loved laughing and adored spending time with his children and grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife of 58 years, the former Carol A. Baaske, four sons: James (Vicki) Bickley, Jr., Matthew (Linda) Bickley, both of Sandusky, Andrew Bickley of Los Alamos, New Mexico, Philip Bickley of Everett, Washington, one daughter: Elizabeth (Pastor Keith) Martinez of Jefferson, Ohio, 16 grandchildren: James H. (Eva) Bickley III, Lisa (Paul) Danos, Laura Fedele, Heidi (Brad) Gangel, Hannah Bickley, Daniel Bickley, Justin Bickley, Tobiah Bickley, Amaris Bickley, Penuel Bickley, Sascha (Chris) Facey, Michael (Amanda) Bickley, Philip (Ilena) Bickley, Jr., Nathaniel Bickley, Keith Martinez II, and Jenna Martinez, 12 great grandchildren, two brothers: Robert Bickley of Milan, Thomas Bickley of New London, nieces, nephews and other relatives.
He was preceded in death by his parents: Ralph & Augusta (Dircks) Bickley, Sr., and five siblings: Ruth Brown, Ralph Bickley, Jr., June Timman, Donald Bickley and Minnie Lamma.
Friends may call from 5:00 - 8:00 PM Wednesday, January 15, 2014 and from 10:00 AM until time of Funeral Service at 11:00 AM Thursday, January 16, 2014 in the Sandusky Community Church of the Nazarene, 1617 Milan Road, Sandusky. The Revs. David P. Flack and Mikel Cheek will officiate. Burial will be in the Meadow Green Memorial Park, Huron, where American Legion Post 83 will conduct Military Graveside Services.
