Edward H. "Sonny" Glassner

Edward H. "Sonny" Glassner, 79, residing in Sandusky, passed away Friday evening, January 17, 2014 at Firelands Regional Medical Center after a brief illness.

Edward was born on September 28, 1934 in Sandusky, OH to the late Edward L. and Louise (Stratton) Glassner.

Edward graduated from Perkins High School. He was a Veteran of the U.S. Army who proudly served his country during a tour in Korea. He was a construction worker and semi-truck driver for many years, retiring in 1992 from Speer Brothers, Inc. in Sandusky. Edward was a member of the American Legion Post 83 and the MLB Cleveland Indians Fan Club. He enjoyed sports and was an avid Cleveland Indians and Cleveland Browns fan. He played in dart-ball leagues throughout Erie County and never missed one his grandchildren's sporting events.

Edward is survived by his wife of 41 years, Alma (Martinez) Glassner; four daughters, Angel (Shannon) Sharp and Brenda (John) Hosko, both of Sandusky, and Tammy (Tim) Woodruff and Kris (Doug) Schooner, both of Rising Sun, Ohio; two sons, Mark Martinez of Sandusky and John Slaughter of Castalia; 22 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives.

In addition to his parents, Edward is preceded in death by two sons, John C. and Edward J. Glassner and two sisters, Margaret McCullough and Blanche Glassner in infancy.

Friends may call on Tuesday, January 21, 2014 from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm at Groff Funeral Homes & Crematory, 1607 E Perkins Ave, Sandusky. Friends may also call on Wednesday, January 22, 2014 from 10:00 am until the time of funeral services at 11:00 am in the funeral home. Burial will follow in Meadow Green Memorial Park, Huron, OH.
