Edgar Adolph Stein, 91, of Monroeville, passed away Friday, January 24, 2014 in the Fisher-Titus Medical Center, Norwalk surrounded by his family.
He was born August 16, 1922 in Monroeville to Adolph & Cora (Smith) Stein.
Edgar was a 1940 graduate of Monroeville High School. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of WW II, serving as a mechanic on the U.S.S. Heywood from 1942 - 1945. Edgar delivered fuel oil for the Monroeville Oil Company, serving customers for 30 years. He retired from the Ohio Turnpike in 1987, and had been a farmer for many years. He enjoyed camping with family and traveling. He spent countless hours working in his garage, cutting wood, making candy, and exploring his farm on his tractor and gator. He loved to dance with the love of his life, his wife, Harriet, and enjoyed playing euchre with family and friends. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Monroeville, where he served the Lord faithfully. He was also a member of the American Legion and Ohio Farm Bureau.
He is survived by his wife of 62 years, the former Harriet J. Miller, whom he married March 24, 1951, one daughter: Elaine (Jim) Ruth of Galion, two sons: Dale (Stephanie) Stein of Shreve, Ohio, and Darrell (Lori) Stein of Greenville, S.C., eight grandchildren: Dan (Molly) Ruth, Matt (Marie) Ruth, Lori Ruth, Sarah (Mike) Sigler, Adam Stein, Austin Stein, Nicholle Stein, and Andrew Stein, six great grandchildren: Evan, Leyla, Kenzie, Zoe, Grant, and Natalie, sisters & brothers-in-laws: Helen Eby & Daryl Smith of Norwalk and Doris and George Gatzke of Elyria, OH., and Olin Schneider of Chandler, Arizonia.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister: Verneita Schneider.
Friends may call Monday, January 27, 2014 from 4:00 - 7:00 PM in the Pfeil Funeral Home, Monroeville Chapel, 109 Monroe Street, Monroeville. Funeral Services will be held Tuesday, January 28, 2014 at 11:00 AM in the Trinity Lutheran Church, 121 Broad Street, Monroeville. The Rev. Dr. Amy Little will officiate. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery, Monroeville.
