June Ellen Betz, 92, died January 24, 2014, at the Providence Care Center after a short illness.

Born in Toledo on November 28, 1921, June was a longtime resident of Sandusky and Norwalk.

She graduated from Sandusky High School in 1939. June enlisted in the United States Coast Guard Women's Reserve (SPARS) during World War II, was assigned to serve at the Personnel Department of the Third Naval District in New York City. She was honorably discharged in 1946 with a rank of Yeoman 1st Class. She was very proud of her service to her country and is honored to be part of The Women in Military Service Memorial in Washington, DC. June was a member of the American Legion Post #83.

June retired from New Departure in Sandusky, where she worked as Executive Secretary to the Director of Reliability for 30 years.

June was preceded in death by her parents, Bernice and Stanley Betz, Sr., her brother and sister-in-law Stanley and Bette Betz, sister-in-law Jeannette Betz and nephew Gary Betz.

Survivors include her younger brother Robert Betz and his children Thomas, Debra, Beth, Dean and David. Also surviving is June's niece Patricia Komarek and her husband Robert Komarek. June also has several grand nieces and grand nephews, all of whom were all very special her.

Visitation for friends and family will be Friday January 31, 2014 at 12:00 Noon at the Pfeil Funeral Home, 617 Columbus Ave., Sandusky, OH, where a short service will be held at 1:30 PM. Sister Nora Klewicki, OSF of the Commons of Providence, will officiate. Burial will occur immediately after the service in the Oakland Cemetery Chapel, 2917 Milan Road, Sandusky, OH.
