He was born August 15, 1919 in Sandusky, to George A. Hemminger and Emeline C. Faber. He graduated from St. Mary High School in 1937.
Of the many organizations he fully participated in (4-H advisor, St. Vincent DePaul, National Farmer's Organization, Knights of Columbus, church committees and many more), he will forever be remembered as "Mr. Habitat" for his dedication to "Firelands Habitat for Humanity" for which he served as a founding member, board member and very hard worker. For the past 20 years he helped build 86 homes for low income families. As a result, he received "Lifetime Achievement" awards from "Habitat." He was also given the annual citizenship award from the Sandusky Register in both 2012 and 2007. He was a "Points of Light" national volunteer award winner, given by President George H.W. Bush.
